The Brahma Viharas

Literally translated The Brahma Viharas means divine abodes or perhaps more contemporarily ‘a very pleasant place to hang out’.

The theory goes: if you cultivate a kind heart it will express itself in different ways when it meets different situations. For example a kind person meeting suffering will want to help; that’s known in the Buddhist tradition as karuna. If that same kind person meets others experiencing happiness there response will be an open-hearted embrace of their good fortune and so on.

The theory also says that if we possess this kind heart we will be in heaven right now! I understand that to quite literally mean our life will become more free, more happy, more full of light!

And so …. we do the metta bhavana meditation practice ….

If you’d like to live increasingly in heaven …. you might like to join our very own, Coogee home grown Padmadakini on retreat out at Vijayaloka for a retreat on The Brahma Viharas from November 19 – 22 …. more details on this link:
