So it’s our last Tuesday night meditation for 2020. Our last chance to gather as a practice community and sit with wide open courage, love and equanimity with what is.
And this brings me to the third of the traditional hindrances we may experience in our meditation practice: ‘Ahhh ……. I dunno ……’
Will I or won’t I make the effort to meditate today? Ahhh …. I dunno ….. don’t think I’ll make it today …… it’s been a long hard day and I just wanna chill out ….. I dunno ….. another half an hour under the doona is too good to resist and ….. you’know what …. I’ve earned it!
All valid choices perhaps …… and perhaps not ….. not if we see value in building and sustaining momentum in our practice …. a well worn parallel perhaps but if a musician wants to experience the fulfilment of playing with mastery, if an athlete wants to be in flow and feel the beauty and exhilaration of it then they will have confronted this hindrance and stared it down or …. perhaps even better made friends with it and brokered a deal.
Traditionally it’s known as ‘Sloth and Torpor’ – attractive isn’t it!! And we’ll meet this lovely being in all aspects of our life …. so he or she is worth getting to know and coming to terms with …..
Given we’ll be in next year before we know it …… you’re so warmly invited to come along to meditation this week and …. bring your friend ‘Sloth and Torpor’ with you: let’s spend some time getting to know them in the meditation space.
