What does it mean to become a Mitra?

Two of our Coogee sangha (Buddhist Community) will become mitras on February 19th.

So what does it mean become a mitra?

Literally translated from the ancient Indian language, mitra means friend. So to request to become a mitra in our Buddhist tradition means one is taking a step of friendship toward us.

Saidie and Stav, along with eight others from the Sydney Buddhist Centre will, during a puja, offer a flower, candle and stick of incense to the Buddha as a symbolic way of expressing their intention to practice wholeheartedly as ethical, compassionate, meditating Buddhists.

You are very warmly invited to come along and be part of these simple and beautiful ceremonies on Saturday February 19th out at Vijayaloka – our retreat centre on the banks of the Georges River in Minto Heights.

3 – 6.30 pm – just bring a picnic basket and blanket

PS: We continue to pay rent to use the beautiful Coogee Croquet Club and I know quite a few have necessarily needed to join us by zoom. If you can make a donation (especially regularly) to help us continue offering what we do it would be much appreciated – it’s been hard covering costs of late and no-one receives any financial return for our meditation and study.

PPS: Huge gratitude to those of you who are already supporting us
